The Bank Wine Bar & Bistro

If you're wandering through Wrexham’s High Street and happen upon the grand old building at 43 High St, chances are you’ve just discovered The Bank Wine Bar & Bistro - and trust me, that discovery might just become your new favourite go-to for top-tier dining and drinks in town.

Housed in a striking heritage building that once served as a bank, this venue brings together old-world charm and modern elegance with effortless grace. Think cosy yet sophisticated interiors, warm lighting, plush seating, and a bar that’s practically glowing with a curated collection of wines, beers, and house-crafted cocktails. It’s the kind of place that invites both impromptu lunches and planned evening soirees, with a vibe that feels both upscale and unpretentious.

Let’s talk food - because that’s where The Bank Wine Bar & Bistro really starts to show off. The menu leans towards elevated British and European bistro fare with international touches that keep things exciting. Their tapas selection is a standout feature - perfect for sharing (or hoarding, we don’t judge). You’ll find everything from crispy pork belly with perfectly rendered fat to delicate garlic prawns that are bathed in butter and herbs.

For plant-based diners, the vegan platter is far from an afterthought. It brings together roasted vegetables, dips, and textures that feel indulgent, not second-best. The butternut squash and lentil flatbread is another plant-forward triumph - warming, earthy, and surprisingly filling. And if you’re in the mood for something rich, don’t miss the cheesy garlic bread, which has earned more than a few devoted fans for its perfect crunch-to-gooey-cheese ratio.

Now, if you’re pairing your meal with a drink - and honestly, why wouldn’t you - the options are both extensive and exciting. Wine lovers will find a carefully chosen wine list that covers the essentials while offering up a few adventurous gems. But where the bar really shines is in its cocktails. Whether you’re sipping on a classic Daiquiri, trying the intriguingly named Flaming Zombie, or getting a taste of local flavour with a Rhubarb and Ginger Gin Tonic, there’s something here for every palate.

Of course, beer enthusiasts aren’t left behind. Wrexham Lager is on tap - a local favourite that brings crisp refreshment to every pour. And if you prefer a full-bodied red or a refreshing white, just ask the staff - they’re not only friendly, but they know their stuff and are always happy to recommend the perfect pairing.

Dessert is no afterthought either. The chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet is a blissful combo of rich and sharp flavours, while the presentation is just fancy enough to warrant a snap for the ‘gram. If you're after a lighter finish, the Caprese salad and refreshing cocktails like the AF cocktail make for a breezy way to wind down.

The space itself is fully wheelchair accessible, from the entrance to the restrooms, and the atmosphere is equally inclusive. Whether you're meeting mates for a drink, popping in solo for a bite between meetings, or planning a romantic dinner, The Bank Wine Bar & Bistro adapts to the moment. It doesn’t hurt that it’s also popular for lunch and dinner, striking the perfect balance between casual comfort and upscale presentation.

With a menu that invites exploration, a drinks list that rivals any high-end bar, and an atmosphere that’s effortlessly inviting, this Wrexham gem blends charm, comfort, and creativity in all the right ways. You’re not just grabbing a bite - you’re indulging in an experience.

What a beautiful wee gem in the centre of Wrexham. Such a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were amazing and accommodating. We waited about 30 minutes for a table but they were more than happy for us to stand at bar and have a drink, they even grabbed a chair for my Dad. The food was delicious, the sausages were odd but so tasty wish I could taken more home. Oh and the MaiTai was divine and the perfect accompaniment

After the match, we changed out of our soaking clothes, warmed up our feet, and ventured out to find dinner. We stopped at several places but being from out of town, we didn’t think to make a booking ahead and most of the restaurants we stopped in did not have available tables for hours. We walked by The Bank and stopped in to see if they happened to have a table and surprisingly, they had a large table at the front for just the two of us. We had three small plates, the fried squid, brisket, and mozzarella and tomatoes. Highly recommend the squid and the brisket. Their Old Fashioned and Godfather were quite good. We met a young couple and started chatting. They joined us at our table and we had a wonderful visit. The decor is very nice, with a beautiful spiral staircase to one side. The service was perfect. If you are in Wrexham, stop by The Bank, you will be glad you did!
